Students explain the macroscopic properties of materials through various models, including atomic structure and types of bonding. Students describe and calculate the energy transferred during chemical calculations and the mass of reactants and products from chemical equations.

Molecular interactions and reactions
The types of bonding are described in greater detail and the factors that influence the rates of chemical reactions. Students will perform calculations to determine concentrations and volumes of solutions in chemical reactions as well as investigate the unique properties of water, acids and bases.
